Popayan coffee is grown in the Cauca region in the Cordillera Central, to the south and west of Huila. The coffee is milled and bagged in Cartago, a town near Pereira. The climate here is mild and temperate with a year round distribution of rainfall. The soil type is rich volcanic soil and the altitude is 1900 meters above sea level. The preparation & drying process is done by the wet method on the farm with sun drying on patios as well as machine drying if necessary. The harvest is from October to February.
When cupped we found these coffees both had good acidity, an excellent creamy body, nice aroma and overall a smooth, well-balanced cup. Particular notes that caught our attention were honey and orange tones on the start accompanied by a rich, long-lasting milk chocolate finish.
