Members of Buddy Brew Coffee’s management and staff (including owners Dave and Susan Ward) put their “Brew Good, Do Good” mission into action on Dec. 2, as volunteers for a special annual event. Onbikes, a local nonprofit that provides bikes to needy children, hosts the Santa’s Bike Shop bike build each December.

This year more than 1,000 volunteers from across the region came to participate in a massive bike-build effort, resulting in about 2,000 new bicycles built. These bikes will be donated to children who are in need and may have never had a bike of their own.

The Tampa-based nonprofit Onbikes started in 2011, and each year hosts a bike build and a Winter Wonder Ride to raise funds for at-risk children. This year it is Dec. 10.

Dave and Susan first met the founders of Onbikes at Buddy Brew’s flagship roastery and café location on Kennedy Blvd, and have supported the non-profit ever since.

Each year, Buddy Brew offers three collaboration coffees to raise additional funds for Onbikes: Joy Ride Roast is released each holiday season, Shipwrecked comes out in January and Freewheelin’ in the spring.

A portion of the proceeds of every bag sold goes directly to Onbikes.
