Ethiopia - Guji - Natural process – Mi'eessa Robe

Getting our hands on Mi’eessa Robe’s latest natural process micro-lot is the kind of coffee moment we live for. Mi’eessa is a smallholder farmer in Ethiopia’s Guji region with a history of producing exceptional coffee. His family farm, which is just eight hectares, or 20 acres in size, is situated at the jaw-dropping elevation of  2,350 meters above sea level, where he grows some of the most exquisite coffee beans in Guji, if not the world.

For this crop, Mi’eessa partnered with another Guji farmer we have worked with, Ture Waji, to dry the beans using the natural process. Drying the beans inside the coffee cherry before hulling brings out a delightfully complex fruit-forward flavor profile. After a light roasting the cup is a little bit floral on the front end, with the essence of stone fruit (think nectarine or peach) and fresh strawberries. It finishes with sugary, almost caramelized notes of dried date or cherry.

This elegant coffee has a weight, texture and mouthfeel that is smooth and velvety. It’s a highly curated gem that is exciting (and delicious!) and we can’t wait to share it with you.
